People always say that I have done so much in the short time I’ve been kicking around on this Earth. I’ve been a soldier, doing my part to preserve the freedoms we enjoy. I’ve traveled to many far away places, experienced different people and cultures. I’ve been a financial consultant: sold stocks, bonds and mutual funds to private clients. I’ve been a manufacturing engineer: managed a team that built generator excitation compartments and motor control centers for steam and gas turbine engines. I started my own business: trained hundreds of people in leadership and management skills. I’ve climbed big mountains, spent time in jungles, deserts, and forests, jumped out of airplanes, scuba dived, bungee jumped, adventure raced, rock climbed, mountain biked and on it goes…
My motivation has always been to seek out new experiences, to do things I’ve never done before. You only live once right? That’s my surface rationale. Beneath that, however, I believe I was just born a seeker, forever destined to search. I’m a seeker of knowledge mostly (although, reading through the list above, I can see that I’ve also been a thrill seeker as well). But on the whole, I take pleasure in seeking knowledge for knowledge’s sake. It is my fuel.
The need to be creative, to express my inner self through words and pictures regardless of the medium, has been the other constant in my life. But I’ve not always been good at letting that light shine hence why I’ve created this blog. I want to use it as a platform for my creative and artistic endeavors. Creating stuff and then sharing it makes my soul sing. I believe in community and collaboration. So let’s be friends. Better yet, let’s engage in some dynamic dialogue. I love that.
Peace out,
Clay
